Diego Hosany Interview

The treasured item you lost and wish you could have again…

A pair of shorts! A few years ago I went to Mauritius to visit my parents and I bought this awesome pair of Red and White shorts with Black writing which were quite expensive for my budget but still I decided to go for it as I didn’t wanna regret not buying them. However after a few months back in London I had to go to play outside London with a friend and ended up staying in some crappy hotel. when we got back from our gig, i saw a hole in my mini suitcase! Apparently some sort of rat ate through my suitcase and feasted on my beautiful shorts!! :( we had to sleep in the car that night as there was no way we would have slept in that room with some kind of suitcase eating animal!! Someday i do plan to avenge my board shorts though!!

The unending quest that drives you on…

The knowledge that music is never over. No one can ever say that they have only one favourite song as there will always be another one coming out that will speak to them directly, there will always be one tune that trumps the other. There will always be a DJ playing the right tune at exactly the right time, making you feel a sense of euphoria in a club. My personal quest is to be that person people rely upon for that event they need, whether I’m on the decks or the promoter, my satisfaction is found on the smile on the faces of people when leaving the event. It is only then I know I did a good job.

The temptation you wish you could resist…

Hmmm temptation itself.. :p I better try to keep it clean here, I am a very curious guy and I do like to try things but nothing that would be over the limit. I am like a little kid sometimes though, if I see a ball on the floor I just have to run up and kick it, if I see a hill I just have to climb it, I cannot resist! Lol I love climbing for some weird reason!

I wish I also resisted the temptation of getting involved in extreme sports. I did Muay Thai for a while till I dislocated my jaw then went to Parkour where I dislocated my knee! :s So I am staying away from the extreme sports now (except from rock climbing) but currently enjoying animal encounters, my best one was with a lion in Mauritius, my next is shark diving with a friend!!

The tune that holds and everlasting resonance…

Save Tonight by Eagle Eye Cherry. I had a friend called Bryan back when I was a kid who I looked up to while growing up. He was a barman on a beach bar who was also a guitarist, every time I hear that song I can picture all of us friends just sitting on the beach in Mauritius listening to him just pour his heart out to the lyrics of that song. It reminds me of a simpler and perfect time.

The priority activity if you were the Invisible Man for the day…

I’ll do exactly what you and any other man would do! Get my ass past security at the playboy mansion!! I would however try to prank my friends in every way possible. But that will only be while I am waiting to get to the Playboy mansion!! I would love to say I’m joking but who can resist such an opportunity to know what really happens there!!

The tune you can listen to time and time again…

God there are so many!! :s At the moment however, I am playing Bromance by Aviici in almost every single mix. I honestly cannot get enough of it and all the clubbers seem to enjoy it as well. I do however try to mix it up a little and play every version but my favourite is the extended vocal mix. I cannot remember a day I haven’t played that track!

The person who has influenced you most…

Hmmm there is a close two here. On a professional level Ziggy Ruhomutally who is my mentor and the original creator of the brand Addictive Tour and who still teaches me stuff on a daily basis and also my Dad, we call him ‘El Farook’ which translates into ‘The person who knows right from wrong’ I just love his open-mindness, his non judgemental attitude and his love for the world. Nothing fazes him.

The figure from history who you’d like to buy a pint…

Ole gunnar Solskjaer! I still need to thank him for ‘that goal’ in the Champions League Final. I was still a teenager living in Mauritius back then and it was the first time I was watching Manchester United reach the finals. Some friends and I managed to get an old guy place a bet for us as well for Manchester United to win 2-1! Best victory I have ever witnessed! We made a small fortune that day and spend the next two days celebrating.

The piece of wisdom you would pass on to a child…

Respect your parents. They might not always be right but they act on what they think is right. Also they are the ones that will always have your back and will support you in what you want to do. I would also say do what you love to do, but always have a backup plan! A good education might help towards that.

The unlikely interest the engages your curiosity…

There are so many things to be honest, I am a very curious guy! I love going with my friends to the most dangerous waterfalls and climb the hardest mountains when I’m on holiday in Mauritius. We also go to the ‘haunted forests and most spookiest places of the island just for a thrill. I have a little penchant for the paranormal!

The prized possession you value above all others…

I got a lot! First above the rest is my family and friends, I’m very lucky to have two brothers, a mum who loves us all equally and an awesome dad as well as a few cousins and a handful of friends who I appreciate for always being there when I need them. I have a tattoo on my back with all their initials as a thank you!

I also do have a lot of material things, but all with a sentimental value. From all my good friends I get a small leather bracelet to which I keep as a symbol of friendship. I love the little things. I have one that says ‘runs with vampires’ which I love and another one with a lion head! my old flatmates from my time in Portugal made me an Ed Hardy t-shirt, because that is my favourite clothing brand, but they made one themselves with my tattoo as the design signed by Nicola, Vida and Rita. It’s actually my favourite! I also got a Barbie doll from them just because I take long to get ready!! :s

The unqualified regret you wish you could amend…

I don’t have regrets really even though I make loads of mistakes in life, I try to learn from them and I know that its through my mistakes that I grow and will get to achieve what I want. But if there was a point in life to which I could turn back time it would be during my time in Portugal where I hurt an amazing friend through a stupid decision. This is the closest thing that comes to a regret for me.

The tune that touches your soul…

Hmmm I would have to say ’’Moments in Love’’ By Nick Terranova & Austin Leeds Feat. Tamra Keenan. Definitely one of the most powerful house tracks in the world! For me it just makes you feel like you want to live on forever!! I have never seen anyone not wanting to move when this track is being played!!

The event that altered the course of your life and career…

I went to Portugal through the EU Erasmus scheme last year that helps send students to go study abroad, the University of Greenwich sent me to the Universidade Do Algarve to which I am grateful for. That must have been one of the most amazing experiences in my life as there was around 100-150 students that were similar to me from all over Europe, and we became one big family to which I have never made so many friends for life at one place!

It was also where I managed to take Addictive Tour as a brand and by meeting the right people such as Dj Tastie from Men 2 B DJs, Jamie Van Goulden, the Frisko Kids from Looking glass records as well as the right crowd in June 2011 we are organising the European ‘Spring Break’.

With one thing leading to another now we have come up with a few even better ideas of how to improve the clubbing scene by working with Static Delight and Frisko. The future is looking good!!

The crime you would commit knowing you could get away with it…

Definitely assist Jamie Van Goulden in kidnapping Lionel Messi for 24 hours before the Champions League Final against Manchester United!! :D I’m sure Jamie would need my help to stop that guy from running away from us. Actually come to think about it, I might need help to stop him as well :s

The song that means the most to you…

Aaaaahh you and your songs!!lol it’s ’’Get out the way’’ by Ludacris! :D nah I’m just kidding! It’s 7 seconds by Youssou N’Dour and Neneh Cherry. It is a song from 97 that is about racism, to which I oppose strongly against. It has the most amazing lyrics to which I quote ’’when a child is born, it has no concept of the tone of skin its living in…’’

The happiest moment you will cherish forever…

Family Sunday dinner!! Back when I was in Mauritius as a kid we all used to gather at one aunts place, picked a week before hand and it felt like a hostile takeover! There had to be around 30 – 40 people family members at one place all just concerned about food! It must be my best childhood memory.

The saddest time that shook your world…

Must have been when Bryan; one of my best friends passed away years ago. He went surfing along the beach and never came back. Because he was around 10 years older than me I used to look up to him and his lifestyle that made his world revolve around him in the most pleasant way. I still try to apply his way of life in mine where life is simple, we complicate is when all we need is love and happiness.

The philosophy that underpins your world…

Do NOT live every day like it’s your last, you will end up in debt!! Just kidding, I would say to do what makes me happy without hurting the people around me. Create events and DJ like a clubber would, we do what we do for the people and our satisfaction is through them wanting an encore!

The order of service at your funeral…

Hmmm I guess it would have to be you and I live forever!

The way you want to be remembered…

All the DJs that I work with as well as promoters would say exactly the same word that I would… BOOM!!

The Plug…
In June, with our very first collaboration, we are organising the Eurobreak that is the European version of ‘Spring Break’ and plan, along with STATIC DELIGHT AND FRISKO to organise next year’s one among other projects.

Unfortunately I cannot give out the projects we are planning that we haven’t started working on, as the ideas are still being discussed and its best you hear the Boom!! All I can say about that is that we have a plan to innovate clubbing in a few countries as we know it.

However as soon as we finish in June I am off to Mauritius and China to deal on future projects and also awaiting a deal to go spend another 6 months in Portugal as of 2012.

We all would be in different countries so it would make it a bit hard, fortunately we all speak the Global language of music and know what we want to do, and what we have to do to get there.
