Hideout Festival – Zrce Beach, Pag Island, Croatia | 29th June – 1st July | FESTIVAL REVIEW

By

Hideout Festival was this year headlined by the likes of Skrillex, Annie Mac, Ricardo Villalobos, Benga and loads more. This was the 2nd year for the festival, and boy has it made its marks in the European dance music summer festival scene. 2011 was the first year for Hideout festival, with less than half the festival goers than 2012 it still managed to make it into the Guardian’s top European festival list. After the first successfully festival the word spread about this awesome event, with amazing DJ‘s in what can only be described as a beautiful place. This made the tickets for hideout festival 2012 sell out months before it started and the amount of people who attend was four times as many as the first year in 2011 with well over 8,000 who traveled to Zrce Beach for the festival this year.

The festival is based in four super clubs (Kalypso, Aquarius 1, Aquarius 2 and Papaya) on Zrce beach on the Island of Pag, Croatia. Each club is unique and different, all of them have indoor and outdoor areas and two have swimming pools where some of the best pool parties Music Fix has seen are hosted in the sweltering heat of the day. These four super clubs are strategically based right on the beach front 20m – 30m away from the actual sea, the sea has crystal clear water and is always perfectly calm due to where the island is positioned.

The island of Pag was more difficult to get to than we first expected, but was well worth the effort. This made the atmosphere in the festival that little bit better though, as everyone have made such an effort to make it there all they wanted to do was have an amazing time. The Music Fix team did not expect how hot Croatia was going to be with it reaching up to 40°C some days, but this did not spoil the fun. It made it that much more special during the pool parties in the day.
A great bonus that Hideout festival offers in the boat parties they have, with line ups as good as the main festival. The boat parties have an exclusive sort of feel to them with 150 maximum on each boat. They had some of the best DJ‘s in the world at one one a raid platform, then a crowd of sun-kissed festival goes enjoying great music and the beautiful views around them. We advise that you book your boat party tickets well before the festival as the are very popular and there is a very very limited amount of tickets. Hideout festival 2012 saw over 16 boat partied spread across 5 days. The boat parties last a couple of hours and you will get to watch the sun go down behind the Croatian mountains while parting away to some of the best DJ‘s around. What more can you ask for in life?

Hideout is a  beachside event in a stunning and unique location. The both years have been a complete sell-out and made an outstanding entrance onto the summer festival scene. Croatia has in recent years become one of the hottest destinations in the world for the clubbing community to go and let loose and many of Europe’s most committed dance fans now head there year after year in favour of the traditional summer destinations such as Ibiza. Hideout Festival is perched on one of finest beaches in the area that runs the entire length of the island and is surrounded by a variety of bars, restaurants, water sports and attractions.

Many DJ‘s returned to play Hideout Festival for the 2nd year running including Annie Mac, Andy C and Jamie Jones. Absolute legends such as Ricardo Villalobos, Four Tet & Caribou, Claude Von Stroke, Skrillex, Skream and Brodinski where also on this years line up. Clubbing partners Mono Cult, Jaunt, Drop the Mustard, Urban Nerds, Sonido and Just Jack also returned for the 2nd ever hideout festival.

The atmosphere that you find at Hideout Festival is like nowhere else on earth. Its still a relatively new, undiscovered place and as you venture around the island you find festival goes who have travelled from all corners of the globe to experience this off the track festival. The local people certainly seemed a little more prepared for the influx of foreign visitors that were mostly British, but the main town near the festival – Novalja reportedly ran out of most spirits and cigarettes within 24 hours from the start of the festival but everyone was the e to have a great time and we didn’t see one bit of trouble out there. There’s not many Police in Pag, but the security and management of the event was very well organised and everyone soon got into the laid back mood to enjoy some rays and listen to some of the worlds best DJ’s and relax.
