After years of talk and speculation, the universe has answered and delivered another sibling to the Wolf + Lamb family, with the young and sprightly Sou Clap Records. On the 5th April the label’s very first London showcase will take place at Loft Studios, bringing two of their newest signee’s as well as some of their closest friends and musical compadres.
Soul Clap return to the capital as the leading lights of the party, returning back to Loft Studios which they previously set alight with their styles and sounds in June last year. They bring Texas-born, Brooklyn- based William Rauscher aka Night Plane, who in an explosion of genre-bending crossover creativity, claimed the first Soul Clap Records release with the dance-floor approvedHeartbeat EP. The track showcased William’s guitar-driven dreamy indie-house style with vocal contribution from longtime hometown friend Casey Gibbs, as well as covering a wide range of Night Plane’s repertoire. Continuing their quest to nurture their personal musical crushes, Soul Clap Records also bring new signee San Franciscan DJ and producer Nick Monaco. Nick’s sound is one of heady electronic funk – at times reminiscent of Jimmy Edgar with his first body of work the 12” ‘Naked Is My Nature EP’.
London’s light fingured friend Shoplifter come in force as they swipe room 2 for themselves. Having hijacked a substantial part of the east London party scene a few years back, partners in crime along the way have included The Revenge, Trus’me, Jamie Jones and Intergalactic Gary, all knocking out dishonest music for discerning ears. Specialising in producing seriously powerful deliciously dirty disco, New York night life heroes Rub N Tug add to the collective. Renowned for their raucous and wild events, their parties have reached cult status both sides of the atlantic. Loft Studios is next and ready. A testament to the phase Italians Do It Better, Horse Meat Disco veteran Severino ventures over West. One of the unsung heroes of the disco re-appreciation of recent years, he has toured the world as part of the Horse Meat Disco contingent, bringing their signature disco inflected sounds to many corners. Shoplifter founder Derren Smart brings an obscure and a dislocated blend of funk, soul and disco, enough to satisty to most demanding criminal mind. Another well loved re-offender will also be completing the pack, but keeping under the radar until then.
A momumental meeting of minds occurs as Soul Clap Records and Shoplifter join forces for a night of exploration, experimentation and musical expedition all under one roof at Loft Studios.
